ORBITAL at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery – Heavenly Art at Ground Level

The gallery of the renowned Norwegian gallerist Kristin Hjellegjerde presents the exhibition ORBITAL from January 8th to February 7th in Berlin, featuring works by talented young artists and posing the question: How does spatial and emotional distance change our perception of each other and the world?
On January 7, 2026, I found myself in a small room with great art:
In a typical Berlin courtyard near Potsdamer Platz, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery presents the exhibition ORBITAL, featuring works by emerging artists such as the Dane Johan Deckmann and the young German painter Alina Birkner, all of whom thematically explore spatial and emotional distance in this exhibition.
On this icy cold evening, however, there was hardly any "distance," as many art lovers and art enthusiasts had visited the gallery in the Berlin courtyard and were moving painstakingly between each other to be moved by the artworks.
Nevertheless, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery has achieved a small sensation with the exhibition ORBITAL: As a gallery visitor, one is impressed by the high level of potential in the works of the young artists on display, and one feels the urge to discover and say something new.

To say something new, it doesn't take many words – as shown by the exhibited works of Danish artist Johan Deckmann:
With very short texts on book covers, Johan Deckmann not only brings a smile to our faces, but he also provokes thought: His minimalist works ironically challenge our occasionally rigid ways of thinking.
And then you stand there, in a cold backyard on a January day in Berlin, and first notice Johan Deckmann's simple paintings with few words but a great and almost healing effect.
And doesn't our world need more humor and more healing in these cold times? You can only find it if you recognize and overcome the distance within yourself.
